Qualifications:

 

Bachelor’s degree from accredited university

Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned

Knowledge of subjects assigned

ESL certification required for, ELA, Reading and self-contained Special Education teaching assignments (or ability to obtain within two years)

General knowledge of design and delivery issues related to alignment for best results in student achievement

Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Student teaching or approved internship

Physically able to monitor student discipline and progress and meet other student needs as required

Physically able to move about the room to perform formative assessments and adequately facilitate small and large group instruction

 

Primary Purpose:

 

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district’s curriculum program and show evidence of preparation in Eduphoria/Forethought as required by district policy.
    2. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
    3. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
    4. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect accommodation for individual needs of students assigned.
    5. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
    6. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
    7. Cooperate with other members of staff for planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
    8. Plan and supervise purposeful assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
    9. Implement technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
    10. Assist students in analyzing and improving study methods and habits.
    11. Consistently assess student achievement through formal and informal testing and use results to plan instructional activities.
    12. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned, and sponsor outside activities as approved by the campus principal.
    13. Present positive role model for students.
    14. Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
    15. Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies, administrative regulations and IEPs.
    16. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
    17. Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
    18. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
    19. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
    20. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
    21. Participate in campus and district staff development programs.
    22. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
    23. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
    24. Compile and maintain all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents as required.
    25. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on committees as required.
    26. Articulate the district’s mission and goals in areas of assigned responsibilities to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
    27. Demonstrate awareness of district/community needs and initiate activities to meet identified needs.
    28. Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective techniques to enhance community and parent Involvement in the local school system.

 

 

Equipment Used:

 

SMART Board, computer, printer, copier, overhead projector, DVD/VCR, graphing calculator, other specialized equipment that is particularly unique to the teaching assignment.

    

Supervisory Responsibilities:

 

Supervise assigned teacher aide(s) and student teacher(s).

 

Working Conditions:

 

Standing for long periods of time. Frequent stooping, bending, pulling and pushing, ie relocating stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment. The level of mobility required depends upon the grade level of teaching assignment(s) and requirements thereof. Must maintain emotional control under stress.
