Qualifications:

 

Master’s degree

Minimum 3 years’ experience as a school counselor with satisfactory evaluations, high school counseling experience preferred or college career advisor experience

Knowledge of financial aid, FAFSA/TAFSA, college admissions, and post-secondary testing (SAT/ACT/TSIA) strongly preferred

Experience in facilitating and providing training and public presentations

Strong technical and analytical abilities

Strong problem solving and organizational skills

Knowledge of high school transcripts, current graduation requirements and enrollment   

Ability to lead groups and individuals in a positive manner

Knowledge of the NCAA Eligibility Center requirements

Knowledge of dual credit program, including dual credit student support services

 

Primary Purpose:

 

Assist the Coordinator of Academic Counseling in organizing, planning, and coordinating district processes to support College & Career Facilitators.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Work collaboratively and cooperatively with the Coordinator of Academic Counseling representatives from other District level offices to provide leadership and ensure consistent, equitable and ethical practices district wide.
  2. Collaborate with the Coordinator of Academic Counseling and the College & Career Facilitators to assess program and staff development needs.
  3. Assist in planning, coordinating, and facilitating regularly scheduled College & Career Facilitator meetings.
  4. Provide leadership to College & Career Facilitators to support their responsibilities and activities.
  5. Support College & Career Facilitators to ensure standardized practices throughout the district.
  6. Assist with developing and maintaining a comprehensive college and career planning program and Katy ISD resources specific to school College & Career Facilitators.
  7. Work collaboratively with campus College & Career Facilitators on developing, implementing, and evaluating college, career, and military readiness programming for secondary students.
  8. Plan, coordinate, and execute a variety of college and career events throughout the district including the Katy ISD College and Career Fair.
  9. Assist College & Career Facilitators in the coordination of college, career, and military readiness testing; specifically, the Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA), SAT/ACT, and ASVAB.
  10. Utilize data collection methods to evaluate the districts college and career readiness program and events.
  11. Collaborate with district leadership in the development of district CCMR goals. Provide guidance for the implementation of test preparation strategies and services to include TSIA interventions.
  12. Promote and advertise college events and scholarships via School Links and all available district communication platforms.
  13. Oversee, implement, and track completion of FAFSA/TASFA applications, college application completion, scholarship applications, and scholarship awards for the district.
  14. Collaborate with the Coordinator of Academic Counseling to ensure that ethical practices are utilized by campus personnel.
  15. Act as an advocate for the Department of School Leadership and Support, school counselors, College & Career Facilitators, and students.
  16. Participate in district professional learning.
  17. Serve on district committees as assigned.
  18. Follow all district, state, and federal policies and procedures.
  19. Demonstrate commitment to current professional standards of competence and practice.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Academic Counseling.

Equipment Used:

 

Interactive white board, computer, printer, copier, overhead projector, DVD/VCR, cellular phone, and other emerging technologies which are particularly unique to the assignment.  Instructional and productivity software, as required by the assignment.
