Bachelor’s degree in related field

Valid Texas certificate in appropriate area

Ability to work effectively between the school and community

Effective written & verbal communication skills

CPI Certificate, once employed

 

The mission of this role:

 

Provides special education consultation and instruction to meet the need of eligible students with disabilities. Communicate with campus staff, district special education staff, and parents/guardians information pertaining to student needs (such as but not exclusively: ARD paperwork, IEP’s, BIP’ and general progress)

 

 

What success looks like for this role:

 

(In addition to regular teacher job description)

  • Prepare documents and attend ARD/IEP meetings for students eligible for special education.
  • Complete local, state and federal paperwork required for program participation.
  • Develop instructional programs for eligible students to achieve mastery of the essential knowledge and skills.
  • Collaborate with teachers and related service staff to develop PLAAFP and annual goals/objectives for IEPs in order to provide and appropriate education for eligible students.
  • Administer criterion referenced tests.
  • Keep current and be willing to apply the state of the art educational practices.
  • Oversee the responsibilities of the Job Coach in implementing the WBL program, to include training in regards to data collection and implementation of specific instructional strategies on campus and in the community.
  • Serve as teacher of record for students in the WBL program.
  • Report progress on IEP goals/objectives and grades as stipulated by district policy & ARD documents.
  • Provide appropriate behavior management techniques for eligible students.
  • Complete State Assessment requirements for eligible students.
  • Communicate regularly with teachers and parents regarding student progress, needs or concerns.
  • Maintain confidential student records & audit folders.
  • Attend district and job specific trainings (i.e., WBL, Transition, Autism, content specific trainings, structured settings, etc…).
  • Monitor WBL Job Coach assigned training site schedules.
  • Supervise WBL Job Coaches duties and monitor data collection of student progress.
  • Collect and maintain data related to student progress and grades.
  • Collaborate with WBL Job Coaches weekly during the campus specified time period.
  • Teach other courses as assigned by the campus administrator.
  • Other SHARS Duties as assigned.
  • Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs.

Equipment Used:

 

Personal computer, copier, printer, calculator, laminator, Smart board.  Adaptive equipment – Wheelchair, wheelchair lifts, wheelchair restraints, ramps, locks, electric changing table, Hoyer lift, various physical therapy equipment, assistive technology including voice output devices.

Workplace operational environment to include:

 

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint; and assist non-ambulatory students. Exposed to biological hazards.
