Bachelor’s degree in related field

Valid Texas certificate appropriate for educating preschool children with disabilities.

Minimum 3 years’ experience as special education teacher

Ability to work with school and community population

  

The mission of this role:                  

 

Provide specialized knowledge and expertise for assessment and programming of bilingual preschool children with disabilities.

  

What success looks like for this role:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of program requirements, eligibility and best practices in evaluation.
  • Assist in the selection and evaluation of appropriate assessment materials and resources that are aligned to best practices and bilingual student needs.
  • Participate in initial ARDs to represent special education assessment.
  • Facilitate the design, development, writing, editing, and updating of the assessment process as appropriate.
  • Continue the initiative to update forms and move to electronic paperwork.
  • Provide structural and behavioral support for bilingual students in the evaluation process.
  • Complete all required paperwork following assessments including goals and objectives, accommodations, autism supplement, Functional Behavior Assessments, Behavior Intervention Plans, and personal care supplement.
  • Communicate with parents in their native language and community members to answer questions regarding assessment and district recommendations.
  • Serve as primary contact regarding the continuum of services for KISD preschoolers.
  • Maintain class rosters and overflow pattern for programming and transportation.
  • Communicate with campuses and teachers regarding student evaluation findings to benefit campus and parent relationships.
  • Support Child Find efforts for bilingual preschoolers in KISD.
  • Coordinate with Project TYKE regarding transition meetings.
  • Interpret and communicate federal, state, and local requirements necessary for assessment compliance.
  • Assist with staff development related to bilingual considerations for all PPCD teachers and paraprofessionals.

Workplace operational environment to include:

 

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint; and assist non-ambulatory students. Exposed to biological hazards. Must have valid Texas driver’s license.
